How to Create a Professional Resume

July 17, 2020

What is a good resume?

A good resume effectively communicates to a hiring manager how one can add value to an organization . It is

-Clear and concise

-Has correct headings with relevant information

-Uses correct format depending on job being applied for

The resume can have some or all of the following headings:

  • Name and Contact Information
  • Education
  • Experience
  • Skills
  • Projects
  • (Resume/Career) Objective

What you include in your resume will depend on what you have to showcase that best represents your value. Some might say that Work Experience is the most important part of a resume but if you have no work experience then how would you go about creating a good resume?

Resumate was built with university students in mind. University students usually do not have much work experience and even less so work experience related to web development. Therefore Resumate currently focuses on gathering information about the user's education, skills and projects.

Projects are a very important part of a web developer's resume because the profession is very project heavy. Projects are the best way to show that you understand the web technologies that you claim to have in your skills section. It is the best substitute for lack of work experience.

Usually you will definitely want to include Name and Contact Information, Education and Skills. You may choose between Work Experience and Projects or you can include both of them. Just note that it is best to have a 1 page resume. This increases the likelihood of the reviewer going through the entire resume. Resume Objectives is an optional section.
